The Architecture of Containment
The lesson wasn’t about television. It was about containment. About how systems trained agency to behave. I chose not to.
Things I never understood as a kid... Max was in charge instead of Agent 99 in Get Smart. Trixie didn't have her own race car in Speed Racer. Jeannie couldn't outsmart her "master" in I Dream of Jeannie. Olive Oil never just kicked Bluto in the privates for harassing her. And Samantha had to hide her magical powers in Betwitched. Who, by the way, I am told I was named after. I remember the moment Sam had to promise her mere mortal husband not to do magic. Right then and there, I promised myself I would not grow up to be like her. It's no wonder I've had such an adventurous life, falling in love with high-tech, backcountry explorations, motorcycles and not settling down until I was well into my forties when I meet someone who didn't ask me to shrink to fit into societal expectations, instead of living my life with full gusto. What a wonderful journey that has afforded me. So be bold, and be brave. Do the things you 'always wanted to'. The world doesn't need more people who hide their magic - it needs more people who dare to use it.
